A Wonderful New Year’s in Martinique: Festive Atmosphere and the Boucan Celebration Before Heading to Guadeloupe

This new year looks full of promise, but above all, it’s off to a flying start—with a little trip to Guadeloupe as a bonus.

New Year’s Eve: The Excitement of Le Boucan

We spent the evening at Le Boucan on the water, moving from boat to boat, enjoying the sounds of the yachts, drinking, dancing, and chatting. I got to meet some wonderful people with whom I bonded pretty quickly. You could say this evening was memorable, considering we didn’t get back to Schoelcher until dawn.

New Year’s Day: A Race Against the Clock to Trois-Rivières

Today is New Year’s Day; it’s past noon, and we need to hurry back to Trois-Rivières to meet up with Sandra’s dad and do the last-minute shopping for New Year’s Eve.

The trip back was a bit of a race! Once we arrived at the apartment, we got right to work while enjoying an aperitif. Noémie prepared some traditional Caribbean dishes for us.

Midnight on the Beach: Future Plans and Reflection

The evening wore on, midnight passed, we danced, and eventually just the two of us—Sandra and I—ended up on the beach, chatting and sharing our hopes for our own projects in the new year. No promises, no resolutions!

I couldn’t say how late we sat there, gazing at the ocean, lost in our thoughts and stories. It was as if, at that very moment, the world had simply stopped turning, to better highlight our plans for the future.

Dawn and the Return to Reality

A young couple came and sat down near us, loud enough to snap us out of our daydreams and bring us back to reality. The world resumed its frantic pace as more people arrived, sweeping us up in its wake. In less than ten minutes, this empty beach filled with young people, and we ended up chatting with them.

Dawn broke shortly after, and it was time to head home—Sandra’s little one wouldn’t let us sleep in.

The Calm Before the Storm: Preparing for the Inter-Island Crossing

On New Year’s Day, we went down to the beach and literally passed out as soon as we settled in. We stayed there for a few hours, but it was very hot.

Since we’re taking the boat to Guadeloupe tomorrow, today will be a quiet day.
